Weekly Watches
This week’s Weekly Watches is a little different than normal because…well, I watched almost zero movies. This week has been busy for me as I’m inching closer and closer to moving—including having to job hunt during a pandemic. It was also a busy work week and my gym has reopened. Basically movie watching was lower on my list this week. I managed to fit in two movies. One, Spike Lee’s new film Da 5 Bloods, I am going to publish a formal review of hopefully tonight. The other, A Fish Called Wanda, is hilarious and going to be part of my Mid-Budget Series when I write about comedies.
Given that I didn’t really watch anything this week I thought I would use this post to reflect on my Watchlist for the coming week. Not specifically an itinerary but more…what I am feeling like getting into.
Firstly: Mr. Nolan. Given that Tenet has been pushed back a little bit I’m pushing back my Nolan series as well. However, since I find watching his films tedious (sorry) I know I am going to need to stretch out these viewings across a larger period of time. I think I am going to group Nolan films by likeness, and this week I would like to fit in Interstellar and Inception…we’ll see.
Next: continuing the 90s comedy trend. I did a bit about the late-80s and late 90s mid-budget thrillers and I want to keep this mid-budget magic rolling. After watching A Fish Called Wanda, I think comedies are a great place to start because much like the erotic thriller the mid-budget comedy is dying. So look forward to more of those.
Lastly: I’d like to fit in a couple of movies that are new, a couple rooted in social commentary, and a couple directed by women. I haven’t decided which ones yet but I am always open to suggestions. Anyway, everyone have a great week, and, as usual, I would love to read the movies you watched this week in the comments!
